South African billionaire Nicky Oppenheimer has seen his net worth surge by over $1 billion since the start of the year, cementing his position as South Africa’s second-richest person and pushing his fortune closer to $11 billion.

Oppenheimer adds $1.03 billion in 2024

Since Jan. 1, Oppenheimer’s net worth has increased by $1.03 billion, rising from $9.85 billion to $10.9 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. This follows a $1.82 billion gain in 2023, when his net worth surged from $8.03 billion to $9.75 billion.

With a net worth pegged at $10.9 billion, Oppenheimer is the world’s 214th richest individual. He maintains his position as South Africa’s second-richest person and the third-richest man on the African continent, trailing Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote and fellow South African billionaire Johann Rupert.

Nicky Oppenheimer’s investments boost wealth

Nicky Oppenheimer’s wealth gains this year are primarily attributed to the performance of his diverse investments, predominantly managed through his ventures Stockdale Street in London and Tana Africa Capital in Johannesburg. He is one of the few African billionaires who have seen their fortune increase by more than $1 billion this year alone.

Other African billionaires who have seen similar gains include Eswatini’s richest man, Natie Kirsh, whose net worth increased by $1.04 billion this year. Johann Rupert and Patrick Soon-Shiong have also seen their fortunes rise by $1.45 billion respectively this year.

Apart from his successful business ventures, Nicky Oppenheimer is renowned for his dedication to wilderness conservation.
