Sun International Limited, a leading casino and resort operator, led by South African executive Anthony Leeming, has unveiled plans for a substantial investment of $28.32 million in its flagship property and renowned resort, Sun City.

The planned investment, amidst an economic slowdown, underscores Sun International’s commitment to South African tourism, aiming to enhance Sun City’s status as a top tourist spot. This move reflects the company’s confidence in the property’s future, with a strong emphasis on improving facilities to enhance customer satisfaction.

The initiative aims to drive growth in the global leisure market, especially targeting Sun City. Upgrades will include ramped-up marketing efforts aimed at international tourists and customized offerings to maintain its appeal to both local and international visitors.

Sun International sets sights on Sun City revamp, anticipates completion by 2026

Despite economic challenges and an energy crisis in South Africa, Sun International reported impressive financial results, buoyed by its online sports betting website, which surpassed five-year targets.

The leading casino and resort operator plans to inject R530 million ($28.29 million) into Sun City resort. This investment will primarily focus on renovating the Sun City Hotel and enhancing the Reserve Vacation Club over the next three financial years.

Sun International CEO Anthony Leeming affirmed, “The capital expenditure, funded from group cash flows and a positive cash flow contribution from Sun City, demonstrates our commitment to enhancing our offerings. The upgrades will commence towards the end of this year, with completion expected in the 2026 calendar year.”
