In a strategic move to address Kenya’s increasing need for electricity, Devki Steel Mills, a subsidiary of the renowned Devki Group led by Kenyan industrialist Narendra Raval, is set to build a $1.9 million wind farm in Samburu, Kwale County.

The initiative aims to generate 60 megawatts of electricity for the national grid, thus contributing to the country’s power supply.

The project will involve the installation of 38 wind turbines equipped with auxiliary facilities, overhead power lines, and access points.

Notably, the generated electricity will be channeled to an existing substation and power transmission grid within the premises of Devki Steel Mills Limited’s Samburu plant.

Upon completion, this wind power facility will become Kenya’s fourth major power plant, joining the ranks of Kipeto Wind (100 megawatts), Lake Turkana Wind Power Plant (310 megawatts), and KenGen’s Ngong Wind Plant (26.1 megawatts).

Devki Steel Mills’ decision to invest in the wind farm comes after the company applied for a license to generate electricity, demonstrating its commitment to diversifying its operations and increasing revenue and profitability.

The license will position Devki Steel Mills alongside key players such as Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen), BTE Renewables, and Kwale International Sugar Company as a prominent power producer supplying the Kenya Power and Lighting Company.

This recent endeavor to meet Kenya’s growing demand for electricity is one of many expansion plans in Devki Group‘s pipeline.

Under Raval’s leadership, the conglomerate has unveiled plans for a cutting-edge cement processing plant in Eldoret, a prominent town in Kenya’s Rift Valley region.

The ambitious project, spearheaded by Cemtech Limited, a subsidiary recently acquired by Simba Cement, aims to significantly increase the group’s cement production capacity.

With its commitment to sustainable energy solutions and diversification into new industries, Devki Group, under the visionary leadership of Narendra Raval, continues to solidify its position as a major player in Kenya’s industrial landscape.

The wind farm project and the forthcoming cement processing plant are expected to bolster the group’s growth and contribute to the country’s infrastructure development and economic progress.
