While there are many successful Black businesspeople in the United States, much of the attention has been focused on the 10 richest individuals, who have amassed a billion-dollar net worth. But it’s important to recognize that there are numerous other super-wealthy entrepreneurs, who have created value for the public while also building wealth for themselves and their stakeholders.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there are more than 2.5 million Black-owned businesses in the United States, with the vast majority being sole proprietorships or small-scale businesses. The surge in Black entrepreneurship highlights the growing importance of minority-owned businesses in the U.S. economy.

In fact, the latest data from the Census Bureau in 2022 reveals that an estimated 140,918 Black- or African-American-owned businesses generated $141.1 billion in annual receipts and about $42.2 billion in annual payroll.

Despite the challenging economic climate of recent times, Black-owned businesses have continued to thrive and deliver value to their customers.

As such, it is essential to highlight the success of some of the captains of industry beyond the well-known billionaires such as Robert Smith, Tyler Perry, Oprah Winfrey, and Rihanna.

To that end, Billionaires.Africa recently conducted research to identify 10 Black businesspeople in the United States who are worth knowing about. This list includes individuals who have achieved remarkable success in a variety of fields and who have made significant contributions to their industries and communities.
