Idrissa Nassa, a prominent Burkinabe businessman and one of Africa’s leading banking tycoons, has announced that Coris Bank International intends to expand its reach into other markets in order to broaden its network and bolster its earnings.

While speaking on the sidelines of the Annual Days of the Club of African Banking and Credit Establishment Executives, Nassa, the chairman of Coris Bank, stated that the bank’s goal for the year is to expand into new markets, particularly in Central Africa.

“This is a process that we have been engaged in since the beginning of the year and on which we will work, hoping to have other openings by the end of the year to further expand our network,” he said.

He disclosed that in a bid to solidify Coris Bank’s standing as a pan-African and development-focused financial institution, they submitted an offer to acquire Banque Zitouna in Tunisia. Regrettably, their bid was not successful as a more compelling proposal was presented.

Nevertheless, Nassa emphasized that the proposed expansion aligns with Coris Bank’s unwavering commitment to growth and development, as the bank already boasts a presence in all nations of the West African Monetary Union.

Coris Bank International is a leading force in the West African financial services sector, with operations throughout francophone Africa. The group operates in Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Mali, Togo, Senegal, Benin, Niger, and Guinea-Bissau.

Under the leadership of Nassa, the bank has grown into a leading force in the industry by basing its development strategy on a distinctive industrial model customized for each of its geographic presences.

In December 2022, the financial services group executed its strategic plan to establish itself as a leading player in Togo with the opening of a new branch in Lome.

The bank’s commitment to financial inclusion was further reinforced by its partnership with GTA to launch two innovative bancassurance offerings, Coris Auto and Coris Voyage.
