Pan-African real estate company TAF Africa Global Limited has partnered with Sierra Leone to address the enormous housing deficits in the West African country.
The company recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the government to construct affordable housing units with mortgage financing.
This comes as the country switches focus from land distribution to country planning and affordable housing in new urban communities for public servants.
Turad Senesie, the head of the country’s Lands, Housing and Country Planning Ministry, recently made the announcement in Freetown.
Aside from providing affordable housing in Sierra Leone, the project, which commences later this year, will further offer job opportunities to citizens.
The real estate developer primarily employs local contractors in addition to its own in-house professionals.
TAF Africa Global Limited is owned by Gambian tycoon Mustapha Njie, who adopted a mission in 2018 to construct 1 million houses across Africa by 2038. The memorandum will allow Sierra Leone to tap into this plan as it moves to solve its housing needs.
Founded in 1990, the pan-African real estate development company has an operational footprint in eight African countries, including The Gambia, Nigeria, Senegal, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Mozambique, Togo and Rwanda. However, it dominates in two of these markets: Nigeria and The Gambia.
So far, the Njie-led company has partnered with several African governments to construct more than 5,000 houses across the continent through its subsidiaries.
